No matter how gripping and entertaining it may be after five seasons, Power always been and always will be a show that often touch base with the ridiculous and hops around convolution to move the plot along, wrap-up characters arc and set up a tidy end/cliffhangers. There was a heavy overdose of both this season.
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but the best scenes for me are the ones with Kanan (50 Cent) and Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.). The thug father figure and thug-wannabe son moments resonated with me far more strongly than another daddy-son sub-plot involving Tommy (Joseph Sikora) and Tony Teresi (William Sadler).
The lead up to Tariq’s ultimate betrayal was riveting all the way, culminating in my favorite segment of the season. A grievously wounded Kanan, having taken out four cops in a brutal shoot-out, stares at Tariq who cowers in terror, fearing he was next which would have been a rare righteous act by Kanan. But he walks away as death closes in. Probably out of love for the only person he thought of as his own, the son he always wanted……like father, like son which also likely played a major part in Kanan’s decision to let Tariq live. Vengeance from the grave in shape of Tariq. The kid will achieve something that Kanan failed to do – destroy Ghost and everyone close to him.
Nudity in S5 was below-par, failed to live up to show’s high standards. Not a single stand-out scene.
