Twi-hards can’t wait to see Edward and Bella’s steamy wedding night in Brazil — but Rob says a lot of the thrusting was cut out and it makes him really upset!
Let there be sex! When Robert Pattinson appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Nov. 9, the 25-year-old expressed his disappointment that the Breaking Dawn sex scene was toned down and turned into a PG-13 flick.
“It was going to be way more explicit at one point,” Rob says. “I mean it should have been. But it came down to a whole bunch of different factors. I mean it was rated R for ages and they really had to fight to cut it down. It wasn’t me … it was Kristen who was causing it to be R-rated!”
They clearly didn’t tone it down that much because host Jimmy Kimmel called the film “erotic”! But you’ll never guess why Rob says the ratings board got so upset with the sex scene!
“I mean I’m kind of doing the same things … the general movements,” Rob laughs. “They normally have problems with ratings over nudity. But this was literally about the movement. It was kind of about thrusting. They kept telling me not to move. They almost wanted to have a kind of leash on the back of you so you couldn’t thrust past it — it’s literally just the tip. They want to see thrusting! They want to see thrusting not probing.”

Robert Pattinson: ‘Breaking Dawn’ Sex Scenes Made It Hard to Avoid an R Rating
Ever since the cameras started rolling on the Twilight movies, fans have been breathlessly anticipating the love scenes inBreaking Dawn (and wondering if they’d push the PG-13 franchise into R territory). Now that filming is done, Robert Pattinson tells Parade that keeping the honeymoon teen-friendly was actually quite a challenge.
“The toughest part was avoiding an R rating,” Pattinson, 25, says of the steamy scenes, which had to be re-edited to meet the MPAA’s guidelines. (Psst — crossing our fingers for an unrated DVD!)
Even though the scenes looked hot, Pattinson says they had their challenges. For example, making out in the ocean sounds like a good idea… until the tide comes in.
“We were trying to kiss each other and we misjudged the strength of the tide and so it was absolutely one of the most difficult things I’ve ever had to do in my life,” Pattinson recalls. “There were big waves and Kristen and I were standing on boxes tied down to the shore. God, it was absolutely impossible.”
Another challenge? Having pretend-sex with your real-life girlfriend. Pattinson says that his scenes with 21-year-oldKristen Stewart were actually more difficult because they know one another so well.
“I think the more comfortable you are with each other, the harder it gets to do any kind of really intense relationship scene,” says Pattinson. “You’re kind of thinking, ‘I don’t want to embarrass myself in front of this person. I know what she’s thinking now.’ So it becomes ridiculous after awhile.”
We know by now that Pattinson and Stewart love to downplay the Twilight hype. But the actor does make a good point about Breaking Dawn‘s hotly anticipated human-vampire action.
“It’s funny when people talk about the sex scenes in the book because there are no sex scenes in the book,” he points out. “Go back and read. They always fade to black.”
Sorry, R-Pattz, but the filmmakers (and the fans) had other ideas! Still, Pattinson doesn’t want Twihards to get too excited.
“Watching other people have sex is never going to be that spectacular anyway,” he says. “It’s a strange thing when there’s so much hype about it. You are like, ‘God, I hope this lives up to it.’ Fans will find out if it does when Breaking Dawn — Part 1 arrives in theaters Nov. 18.
