Glee stars are doing damage control for tonight’s episode (Fox, 8 p.m.), featuring two couples losing their virginity – gay Kurt and Blaine, and heterosexual Rachel and Finn – and the show hasn’t even aired yet.
The Parents Television Council has issued its objection, which is focused on the age of those involved. They’re supposed to be high-schoolers. “The fact that Glee intends to not only broadcast, but celebrate children having sex is reprehensible,” says PTC president Tim Winter. “The gender of the high school characters involved is irrelevant. Teen sex is now more prevalent on TV than adult sex and Glee is only playing into that trend.”
Chris Colfer (who plays Kurt) tells EW.com that his scene “was much tamer than even I was expecting. My imagination went all over the place. I think everyone is going to walk away from it wishing their first time was like that.”
And Lea Michele tells USA TODAY hers was done tastefully. “I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t feel like they were doing it in the right way,” she says. “You know, we do a lot of comical stuff on our show, but we also do some really hard-hitting, smart, well-done things on our show dealing with these issues, and it was really done so tastefully.” So she wasn’t nervous shooting the sex scene? No way. “It’s Cory Monteith!” she says. “He’s gorgeous.”
