Reese Witherspoon and Jason Segel are about to make a sex tape. Or, at least, potentially make a movie called “Sex Tape” for Sony Pictures.

According to the Web site Deadline, offers are out to Witherspoon and Segel to star in the movie about a married couple who spice up their sex life by making a dirty home video, only for the tape to disappear. The duo attempts to chase down the tape before it goes public and embarasses them or their kids. It’s a plot that sounds like it could be pitched as “Date Night” meets “Zack and Miri Make a Porno.”
Ironically, Witherspoon had some harsh words at the MTV Movie Awards in June for actresses who strip down for sexy videos and photos.

“I know it’s cool to be bad, I get it. But it’s also possible to make it in Hollywood without a reality show,” she said. “When I came up in this business you made a sex tape and you were embarrassed and hid it under your bed, and like if you took naked pictures of yourself on your cell phone, you hid your face.”
Many assumed her words were directed at Blake Lively, the “Gossip Girl” star who’d had what were allegedly nude photos leaked at the time by a hacker.
Sony apparently paid seven figures to acquire “Sex Tape,” which was written by Kate Angelo, the writer of “The Back-Up Plan.” The studio is eyeing Nicholas Stoller to direct, according to Deadline. Stoller worked with Segel on “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” a movie in which the actor infamously stripped down for a full-frontal scene. Perhaps he’ll get a chance for a repeat performance in this new movie.

When I first saw the headline for this news, I was a little confused. It wasn’t as vulgar as I thought it was. The news pertains to a script from Kate Angelo (THE BACK-UP PLAN) that was picked up by Sony Pictures back in June.
It’s a zany story about a married couple who take a night off from their kids, decide to get adventurous and spice things up by making a private sex tape. When they wake up, the tape is gone and they go on a desperate search to find it. How about you don’t make a sex tape? That should clear that whole scenario up. The studio is looking at GET HIM TO THE GREEK director Nicholas Stoller to helm the film. For the leads they have sent offers out to Reese Witherspoon and Stoller’s buddy, Jason Segel.
I like Witherspoon and would really love to see her do a film like this especially since Segel and Stoller are involved. This could really bring her back in the public eye in a different capacity. I have not been too impressed with her last few films so I hope her next one is a good one.
